The Focused Training Pathway includes 80 hours of classroom instruction, practical hands-on experience, and online self-study modules.
4. Is the 80-Hour Introductory Course offered online?
The course features a practical lab demonstration, so it is not solely online. It is only available through an ASTEP Intro to Sleep Medicine for Technologists Accredited Course Provider. You can find a course provider near you through our Directory of Course Providers. So that you know, travel may be necessary if there are no local providers nearby.
5. How much does the course cost?
The usual price for the course is approximately $3,000, according to various providers.
6. What does the course curriculum cover?
The 10-day course curriculum covers 80 hours of practical training on the responsibilities of a sleep technologist, including the history of sleep medicine and hands-on demonstrations for setting up and conducting various patient sleep studies. It also includes topics such as sleep disorders, EEG and sleep staging, respiratory and cardiovascular monitoring, sleep-related breathing disorders, movement disorders, and more.
7. Is there a final exam for the course?
Yes, the course ends with an online Final Exam consisting of 106 multiple-choice questions. A minimum score of 70% is necessary to pass. There is a one-time exam fee of $50. The course provider will give instructions on how to access the exam after completing the course.
