Reporting a facility HIPAA complaint

Process for reporting a formal HIPAA complaint

  1. Verify if the facility holds current AASM accreditation by viewing our Sleep Center Directory (if the facility does not hold an AASM accreditation skip step 2 and proceed to step 3).
  2. After confirming the facility holds current AASM accreditation complete and submit the accreditation complaint form. The AASM has the authority to perform investigations related to the Standards for Accreditation.
  3. File a complaint with the US Department of Health and Human Services US Department of Health and Human Services
  4.  Start the formal complaint process with the facility’s compliance officer
  5. HIPAA compliances are determined by the appropriate parties (state health departments, medical boards, HHS). The organizations are responsible for making determinations on compliance with their regulations. Once those determinations are made the AASM can determine compliance to standards.
