How to Choose an ASTEP Pathway for the CPSGT or RPSGT Credential

ASTEP can help learners complete the education needed for the BRPT CPSGT or RPSGT exams. Use this guide to choose the pathway that best fits the learner’s current training and experience.

 Before You Begin:

  • ASTEP is an education program. It does not award certification.
  • BRPT sets exam eligibility requirements and awards the CPSGT and RPSGT credentials.
  • Learners should review BRPT eligibility and any state licensure rules before registering.

Option 1: Clinical Experience Pathway

Best for: Learners who are already working in a sleep lab or gaining clinical experience while completing ASTEP modules online.

  1. Create an ASTEP account.
  2. Enroll in Introduction to Sleep Medicine for Technologists.
  3. Select the Clinical Experience Pathway.
  4. Complete the modules within three years.
  5. Gain the required clinical experience.
  6. Apply for the BRPT exam when eligible.

Cost: Clinical Experience pathway modules are $30 each or $750 for the full bundle.

Option 2: Focused Training Pathway

Best for: Learners who need to complete an accredited 80-hour introductory course before starting their ASTEP modules.

  1. Attend an accredited ASTEP Intro to Sleep Medicine for Technologists Course.
  2. Pass the Final Exam. The exam fee is $50.
  3. Create an ASTEP account after completing the course.
  4. Complete the required ASTEP modules.
  5. Gain the required clinical experience.
  6. Apply for the BRPT exam when eligible.

Cost: Focused Training pathway modules are $20 each or $500 for the full bundle. This pricing applies after completion of the accredited introductory course.
